I was recently privileged to be asked to carry out reiki healing on four horses with four different owners on a livery yard.
Horses are naturally very attuned to reiki energy. They understand it, knowing how best to use it for their own means. My only role is to act as a conduit for the energy to flow through, allowing the horses to use the energy as they see fit.
The first horse had eye issues, so I was expecting him to want the energy directed to his head. No, he wanted me to hold my hands lightly over his back. When he released a series of deep yawns, then I knew he had received what he needed.
The second horse in contrast, very much wanted me to work on his head. To start with the energy was too intense for him, and he requested that I place my hands a foot away on either side of his head. Adjusting to the energy, he finally let me place my hands on his head, causing him to become very sleepy and peaceful. He really enjoyed sharing breath with me, allowing a beautiful shared connection to be forged. This, from a horse whose owner had told me only 45 minutes before that he was very wary of people he didn’t know. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly connected you can become to a horse when using reiki. This horse finished the session by drinking a whole bucket of water; something unusual for him apparently, as he normally ignores the water in his stable.
.

The third horse was more challenging. The yard had become a hive of activity, and it was hard for both of us to focus on the task in hand. Nevertheless the mare presented various different areas over her body where she wanted reiki, and she also allowed me to feel some strange sensations in her body; information she wanted passing on to her owner.
The final horse allowed me to witness something I had never seen before. She wanted me to work on her hind end. With my hands lightly resting on her root and sacral chakras, she proceeded to carry out some very deep stretches indeed. First on one side and then another, with a slight rocking action. I have never seen stretches like them! Nor had her owner! Then her tailbone started to pulsate rhythmically under my hand, and her owner felt it too. It was a true blessing to witness such releases. Again, I was left in no doubt that this beautiful TB mare had received exactly what she needed.
Doing this job is a true blessing. Being able to connect deeply with such soulful animals, as well as being witness to their responses and deep healing is such a privilege for which I am truly grateful. Reiki healing truly is a wonderful gift to bestow on your beloved animal, allowing him to benefit physically, emotionally and spiritually.
In true reciprocity, this intelligent energy had also worked its magic on me. Arriving home, I felt very sleepy, resulting in the best night’s sleep in a long time. I awoke feeling energized and in great spirits. Such is the gift of energy healing!
